Mayra Banuelos wins HHMI Fellowship

Mayra Banuelos joins the Gilliam Fellows Program in July 2023

Mayra Banuelos, a CCMB Ph.D. candidate advised by Assistant Professor Emilia Huerta-Sanchez, wins one of fifty fellowships offered by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Gilliam Fellows Program. Each July, the Institute awards student-advisor pairs $53,000 each for up to three years to invest in leading scientists who strive to promote equity and inclusion in their respective fields. Mayra is entering her fourth year in the CCMB's Huerta-Sanchez Lab and her research interests include developing new computational methods for studying archaic admixture and its contribution to adaptation in anatomically modern humans.
